Our editorial take on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is not just an iterative update; it's a statement piece that confidently establishes itself as one of the best all-around full-frame cameras on the market. It successfully sheds the compromises of its predecessor and borrows heavily from the performance of higher-end models like the EOS R3, creating a package that punches far above its price point. At its core, the R6 Mark II is built for speed. The combination of a blistering 40fps electronic shutter and a supremely intelligent autofocus system makes it an absolute weapon for capturing fast-moving subjects, from wildlife to wedding receptions.

Canon made a smart move by increasing the resolution to a well-balanced 24MP. This provides more cropping flexibility than the original 20MP sensor without creating unwieldy files or sacrificing low-light capability. For videographers, the improvements are significant. Heat management, a notable issue with the first R6, has been addressed so thoroughly that it's no longer a concern for the vast majority of shooting scenarios. The camera now delivers fantastic-looking 4K video with a feature set that satisfies serious hybrid creators. It truly is the camera that can do almost everything exceptionally well.

While the R6 Mark II comes close to perfection for its class, a couple of hardware choices betray its position below Canon's top-tier lineup. The lack of a CFexpress card slot may frustrate some power users who need the fastest buffer-clearing speeds, and the inclusion of a fragile micro-HDMI port instead of a full-size one remains a baffling decision for a camera with such strong video credentials. However, these are minor grievances in an otherwise stellar camera. For the price, especially with recent discounts, the performance and versatility are nearly unmatched.

Best for: Hybrid shooters and event photographers who need a high-speed, versatile camera for both advanced stills and video without paying a flagship price.
