Our editorial take on the DJI Air 2S Drone
The DJI Air 2S continues to occupy a unique and compelling sweet spot in the drone market, years after its initial launch. Its defining feature remains the impressive 1-inch CMOS sensor, a component previously reserved for larger, more expensive models like the Mavic 2 Pro. This sensor delivers outstanding image quality, with excellent dynamic range and low-light performance that elevates it far above typical consumer drones. It effectively democratized pro-level aerial imaging, packing it into a portable and relatively affordable package.
While newer models may have arrived, the Air 2S holds its own by offering a near-perfect balance of performance, portability, and price. The ability to shoot in 5.4K resolution provides significant creative flexibility for cropping and post-production. Although it makes a small compromise in flight time compared to its direct predecessor and lacks side-facing sensors, these are minor trade-offs for the massive leap in camera capability. For creators who prioritize image fidelity above all else but still need a drone they can easily take anywhere, the Air 2S remains a benchmark for value and quality.
- Excellent image quality from a large 1-inch sensor
- High-resolution 5.4K video capture
- Great balance of portability and advanced features
- Strong value proposition, rivaling more expensive drones
- Reliable four-direction obstacle avoidance
- Approachable for both beginners and experienced pilots
- Slightly shorter battery life than some competitors
- Lacks side-facing obstacle avoidance sensors
- Fixed f/2.8 aperture limits exposure control

5.4K resolution on a 1 inch sensor, a wider view and better sensors – this is the new Air 2S, DJI’s newest drone. I took it for a first spin and here are my thoughts in this DJI Air 2S Review.
DJI updated the popular Mavic Air 2 with a 1″ sensor and a new name, the Air 2S. The body and many features are similar; however, the flight time has decreased by a few minutes due to the larger sensor and camera.
Is the "Mini Mavic 2 Pro" as good as the reviews say? Let's take a look. DJI has always made the cinema-centric Mavic 2 Pro the pinnacle of filmmaking for aerial videographers.
The Air 2S is clearly the more advanced flyer. It has a better camera, more features, and, for my money, I think it's a better value.
When something is claimed to do it all, I always wonder where the sacrifices are being made. It’s an Air, but it’s now a different kind of Air.
I’m not a drone guy. In fact, I’ve always been a bit nervous to play around with them too much. They’re big, fragile, and expensive, which is a dangerous combination for someone with my hand-eye coordination. But I’ve always sort of wanted one, mostly because I’ve been jealous of the mid-air photos and videos I’ve seen other people pull off.
It's barely been a month since DJI unveiled a new drone, and the company already has another to show. This time, it's the Air 2S, the latest iteration of its medium-sized camera drone.
