Our editorial take on the DJI Osmo 360
The DJI Osmo 360 marks DJI's first serious play in the 360 action camera space, and reviewers agree it's a strong entry that directly challenges Insta360's dominance. With a 1/1.1-inch sensor, 8K/50fps recording, and 10-meter waterproofing without a housing, it brings DJI's signature image quality and build to a category they've largely ignored until now. Reviewers consistently praise its low-light and high-contrast video quality over the Insta360 X5, along with RockSteady 3.0 stabilization and HorizonSteady that keep footage smooth even in rough conditions. The magnetic quick-release system, native DJI Mic integration, and 128GB of built-in storage add to its appeal for creators who want fewer accessories to manage.
Where the Osmo 360 stumbles is in software and user experience. Several reviewers point to quirks in the interface and app that slow down workflows, especially when compared to Insta360's more polished ecosystem. The stitching minimum of 75cm can be limiting for close-quarters shooting, and some design choices feel less intuitive than competitors. Battery life at 8K is also modest at 100 minutes, though Endurance mode stretches that considerably at lower resolutions. Overall, reviewers see it as a capable, well-built alternative that excels in image quality but still trails slightly in the software refinement that makes 360 cameras truly effortless to use.
- Excellent low-light and high-contrast video quality, notably better than Insta360 X5
- Rugged 10-meter waterproofing without a housing (IP68)
- Strong stabilization with RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady
- Native DJI Mic integration and 128GB built-in storage reduce accessory clutter
- 8K/50fps recording with a larger 1/1.1-inch sensor
- Software and app interface less polished than Insta360, with workflow quirks
- 75cm minimum stitching distance limits close-up shooting
- Modest 100-minute battery life at 8K/30fps

DJI has announced the company’s first 360-degree action camera designed to compete with the Insta360 X5 and the aging GoPro Max, slightly edging out the X5’s recording capabilities by capturing 8K videos at 50fps instead of 30fps.
It stacks up well against its main rival, Insta360's X5, by offering better video quality in low light or high-contrast situations. It's also easy to use.
DJI has officially launched the Osmo 360, marking the company’s first foray into 360-degree action cameras. While it’s a newcomer to the 360 space, DJI is leaning on its strengths-high-resolution imaging, advanced stabilization, and a well-developed accessory ecosystem.
DJI takes on the 360 action camera market with the Osmo 360.
My husband and I are filmmakers, so we decided to film a short documentary along the way. Apart from a small mirrorless cam and a compact drone, we also took with us a DJI Osmo 360 and gave it a thorough test drive.
DJI has announced its new Osmo 360 Action Camera, and it looks like they want a piece of the pie that is currently being gobbled up by Insta360.
This update definitely isn't as robust as the one they issued for their Osmo Pocket a few weeks back, but it's great to see DJI continuing to add more features and functionality to their 360-degree all-in-one action camera.
So, did the Osmo Action live up to all the hype? Our answer is a definitive yes. Over treacherous hikes, across burning sands, and against gnarly rapids, the Osmo Action performed exceptionally.
