Our editorial take on the FUJIFILM GFX100S II
The Fujifilm GFX100S II delivers 102-megapixel medium format image quality in a remarkably accessible package. Reviewers consistently praise its stunning image output, even in average shooting conditions, and its lighter, more compact form factor compared to the flagship GFX100 II. The camera retains the same sensor and image quality as its pricier sibling while undercutting it by $2,500, making it a compelling value proposition in the medium format space. The X-Processor 5 brings improved autofocus with AI-driven subject detection across a wide range of subjects, and the 8-stop in-body stabilization earns particular praise for enabling handheld shooting at low shutter speeds and steady video work.
Reviewers agree the GFX100S II strikes an ideal balance between portability and performance. Its 883-gram body is light enough for travel and extended shooting sessions, while the 7fps burst rate and updated autofocus handle a wider range of subjects than previous medium format cameras. The consensus is clear: unless you require the absolute fastest burst speeds or the most advanced video features of the GFX100 II, the 100S II offers effectively the same image quality and stabilization in a form factor better suited to real-world use. It's a significant upgrade over the original 100S and positions medium format as a practical choice for more photographers.
- Stunning 102-megapixel image quality matches the more expensive GFX100 II
- Lightweight and compact body (883g) ideal for travel and extended shooting
- Exceptional 8-stop IBIS enables handheld low-light shooting and stable video
- Improved AI-driven autofocus with extensive subject detection

- Burst speed (7fps) lags behind flagship models for fast action
- Video capabilities are not as advanced as the GFX100 II

After one week of taking the FUJIFILM GFX100S out for a walk around the block, the images it produces in even average situations are stunning. I need a camera that can function in a wide range of circumstances and shoot solid video as well.
The FUJIFILM GFX100S II is a new mirrorless medium format camera that offers a 102MP sensor, improved EVF, AI-driven autofocus, and better IBIS, all in a compact and lightweight form factor.
This article does not review the FUJIFILM GFX100S II but rather discusses a different product, the Fujifilm GFX100RF, and introduces it as bringing a fixed lens to the GFX system.
FUJIFILM is making improvements and additions to both its medium-format GFX line and APS-C-format X System with the launch of the GFX 100S II.
Unless you need the better video capabilities or the fastest possible burst rates, the GFX 100S II gives the same image quality, and stability, and still shoots quickly enough for most people. It’s also lighter and more compact with a form factor that I prefer when traveling around.
Fujifilm just announced its latest medium format camera, the GFX100RF. This one differs from the company’s other GFX models in two key ways: it’s the lightest body in the GFX series so far, and it’s the first to feature a fixed-lens design.
Fujifilm's GFX100S II is a big improvement over the original and offers the same picture quality as the GFX100 II for $2,500 less.
Does the GFX 100S tap into the best aspects of the GFX 100, or does the camera lose too much in the process of being scaled down? Let’s find out.
