Our editorial take on the Gitzo Fluid Gimbal Head
The Gitzo Fluid Gimbal Head carves out a unique and compelling niche for itself, skillfully blending the worlds of still photography and videography. It directly addresses a long-standing frustration for hybrid shooters, especially those in wildlife and sports, who previously had to choose between a gimbal's fast tracking for photos and a fluid head's smooth motion for video. Gitzo's solution is an elegant, well-built piece of hardware that incorporates a fluid cartridge and a removable pan handle into a classic gimbal design. This allows for remarkably smooth pans and tilts that are simply not achievable with a traditional gimbal head.
While this hybrid approach is innovative, it is not without compromises. The integrated fluid dynamics mean it may not feel as completely free-moving as a high-end gimbal dedicated purely to photography. Conversely, dedicated video shooters might find its controls and payload capacity of 17.6 pounds somewhat limiting compared to a purpose-built cinema fluid head. However, for the creator who needs to do both jobs well without swapping gear in the field, this head presents an exceptionally effective, high-quality solution. It's a premium product for a specific user, and it executes its intended function beautifully.
- Innovative hybrid design combines gimbal and fluid head functions

- Fluid cartridge enables smooth panning and tilting for video
- Includes a removable pan handle for video-style operation
- Highly versatile for hybrid photo and video shooters
- A potential compromise compared to specialized, dedicated heads
- Premium price point typical of the Gitzo brand
- 17.6 lb payload capacity may be insufficient for heavy cinema rigs

There are lots of photographers or tech reviewers who write reviews of a new product, basically looking at the spec sheets, or holding it in their hands for a couple of minutes. But in my mind, there is no better way to review a product than to use it as my primary camera for a while and really get to know it in detail.
This looks like a forum post rather than a product review. The user is asking a question about the Gitzo Fluid Gimbal Head.
For the longest time, there hasn’t been much improvement when it comes to tripod legs. That is until a few years ago when Sachtler introduced the flowtech tripod, which was innovative because it has three plastic latches just below the head that allow for quick release of the entire leg by just releasing one latch per leg.

Storied tripod manufacturer Gitzo provides a beautifully shaped gimbal head that doubles as a fluid head by presenting a panning handle similar to what you would find on a professional video head. The Gitzo Gimbal Fluid Head weighs 3 lb and can support 17.6 lb of gear.
