Our editorial take on the Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens (FUJIFILM G)
Laowa has carved out a valuable niche within the Fujifilm GFX ecosystem with the 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D. This lens directly addresses a significant gap in the native lineup by offering a fast, ultra-wide perspective at a highly accessible price point. Its existence is a relief for GFX shooters who have been waiting for an affordable wide-angle option. As a fully manual lens, it demands a deliberate approach to photography, but it rewards the user with excellent performance where it counts most.
The standout feature is undoubtedly the 'Zero-D' designation, and the lens absolutely delivers on its promise of near-zero distortion. This makes it a formidable tool for architectural and landscape photography, where straight lines are paramount. Image sharpness is impressive for the price, and while the corners may show some softness wide open, the overall optical quality is a fantastic value. The bright f/2.8 aperture provides welcome flexibility in low-light situations, and creative shooters will appreciate the well-defined 10-point sunstars produced by its 5-blade aperture, along with its ability to focus quite closely for dramatic compositions. For the right user, this lens isn't just a budget alternative; it is a compelling primary lens.

The Laowa 19mm F/2.8 Zero-D GFX is a new ultra-wide-angle lens for FUJIFILM GFX medium format cameras. This compact and lightweight manual lens gives you a 110° field of view with Zero Distortion, ideal for landscape and architecture shooters.
Laowa has announced its new 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D GFX. This is a medium format Ultra-wide-angle lens that weighs 546g and is just 80mm in length.
For brevity, all lenses feature 9-bladed diaphragms for “natural-looking out-of-focus highlights,” i.e., “nice bokeh.”
It features an 86mm filter thread, a 20cm (7.9-inch) minimum focusing distance for close-up wide-angle shots, and a 5-blade aperture that is not rounded so that you can capture 10-pointed sun-stars when shooting landscapes.
The Laowa 19mm F2.8 Zero-D lens offers GFX users a fast, affordable wide-angle lens, addressing a gap in the GFX system for fast-aperture wide-angle photography.
