The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 successfully carves out its own space in the Z-mount lineup as a high-value alternative to the much heralded, and much heavier, 24-70mm S-line lens. It offers the most important feature of its professional sibling, a constant f/2.8 aperture, in a package that is significantly lighter, more compact, and dramatically more affordable. This lens is a strategic move by Nikon to provide a native option that competes directly with popular third-party choices, delivering very good all-around performance with fast, quiet autofocus that serves both photographers and videographers well.

Of course, reaching this accessible price point requires some sensible compromises. The build quality, while perfectly adequate for most, is not up to the robust, weather-sealed standards of the S-line. Optically, while it delivers pleasing images with good sharpness, it does not match the clinical perfection and edge-to-edge consistency of its premium counterpart.
