Our editorial take on the OM Digital Solutions M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO
The M.Zuiko 8-25mm F4.0 PRO is a testament to the strengths of the Micro Four Thirds system, delivering a uniquely versatile focal range in a compact, high-performance package. Covering an impressive 16-50mm full-frame equivalent, this lens is an outstanding single-lens solution for travel, landscape, and architectural photographers. It effectively replaces the need to carry both an ultra-wide and a standard zoom, without compromising the professional build quality and weather sealing that the M.Zuiko PRO line is known for. The retractable design keeps it portable, making it a natural fit for creators who prioritize mobility.
Optically, the lens is stellar. It produces exceptionally sharp and high-resolution images across its entire zoom range with very well-controlled distortion, a critical feature for architectural work. The primary trade-off, however, is the constant f/4 aperture. While perfectly sufficient for daytime shooting or tripod-based landscape work, it is not the ideal choice for low-light situations or for photographers seeking extremely shallow depth of field. This is a deliberate design choice that favors portability and a wide focal range, and it's a compromise that will be well worth it for the intended user.
- Extremely versatile 16-50mm equivalent focal range
- Excellent sharpness and optical performance
- Minimal image distortion
- Robust, weather-sealed PRO construction
- Relatively compact and portable for its range
- Constant f/4 aperture is limiting in low light
- Less capable of producing shallow depth-of-field effects

Olympus sold their imaging business to Japan Industrial Partners in January 2021 and therefore changed their company name to OM Digital Solutions. However, this is not the end of their imaging business since they released the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F/4 PRO lens for MFT cameras in June this year.
I encourage anyone who is interested in the GH6, or any other camera for that matter, to get a hold of one and try it out before buying. Reviews can only tell you so much and my thoughts on certain aspects of the camera are just an opinion. Never make a gear decision based on a single review. Read as many different reviews as you can and try and get hold of a camera yourself to see if it works for you.
Offering a full-frame equivalent focal length of 16-50mm, the OM Digital Solutions M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO is an incredibly versatile lens with a focal range ideally suited to everything from landscapes to street photography to architecture. Optically, the lens is stellar, delivering high-resolution images with minimal distortion.
OM System has announced a new Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera called the OM-3 with a design inspired by the Olympus OM-1 film camera that first debuted in 1972. Despite its vintage appearance, the OM-3 offers features similar to last year’s OM System OM-1 Mark II in a more compact and affordable body.
This new 8-25mm f/4 Pro lens might not be the ideal choice for low-light situations, but it’s well-equipped for all sorts of shooting scenarios, including landscapes, close-up macro-style photography, travel, outdoor architecture, and just general photography purposes and snapshots.
