Our editorial take on the Peak Design Universal Head Adapter

The Peak Design Universal Head Adapter is a direct and necessary response to the most polarizing feature of the celebrated Travel Tripod, its integrated ball head. For many photographers and especially videographers, the stock head simply lacks the required functionality or feel of a traditional fluid or robust pan-and-tilt head. This adapter successfully decouples the head from the legs, turning the Travel Tripod into a more conventional and versatile support system that can accept any standard third-party head. It is a simple, well-executed fix that opens up a world of possibilities.

However, this added versatility comes at a significant cost. Using this adapter with a third-party head completely negates the Travel Tripod's primary selling point, its seamless and ultra-compact folded profile. The entire 'no wasted space' design principle is compromised, leaving you with a bulkier carrying experience. While installation is straightforward, the decision to use it requires choosing between the tripod's revolutionary packability and the freedom to use your preferred equipment. It is a non-negotiable accessory for those who need more than the stock head offers, but it fundamentally alters the product's core identity.

Best for: This is for Peak Design Travel Tripod owners who must use a specialized or third-party head for their specific video or photography workflow.
What's great
  • Enables the use of any standard third-party tripod head
  • Essential for mounting professional fluid heads for video
  • Simple and straightforward installation process
  • Allows users to bypass the limitations of the stock ball head
Watch outs
  • Compromises the tripod's main selling point of a gapless, compact profile
  • Adds an extra cost to an already premium tripod system

The bracket also ships with a glass-reinforced nylon Peak Design Capture (v3) adapter and long pass-thru camera screw, meaning customers aren’t required to choose between different Lexie models. It is a “one-size-fits-all” approach. The only decision photographers face is what color to get, as Lexie is available in black, gray, and orange colorways.

This is my favorite smartphone tripod - Engadget

This aluminum tripod folds down to a credit-card-sized profile, a little thicker than Apple's MagSafe wallets. With a solid micro-ball head, you can adjust the angle of your phone while it's in tripod mode.

Could this be the ultimate lens carrying solution? - Imaging Resource

It might not be a universal solution, but for those who carry just a few smaller lenses, and especially those already familiar with Peak Design products, the CaptureLENS and Lens Kit are great solutions to keep lenses nearby.
