Our editorial take on the PORTKEYS LEYE III 4K HDMI 2.4" LCD Electronic Viewfinder
The Portkeys LEYE III represents a significant, if imperfect, step forward in making electronic viewfinders accessible to the masses. For years, creators have been forced to choose between shelling out four figures for a premium EVF or forgoing one entirely. The LEYE series aggressively targets this gap with a compelling price and a respectable feature set, including 4K HDMI input. While it doesn't compete with top-tier models on every metric, its value proposition is difficult to ignore.
That said, this is not a product without compromises. There is a noticeable, though generally manageable, degree of latency that users should be aware of. The overall build quality feels appropriate for its price bracket, but some filmmakers find it benefits from user modifications to feel truly robust and road-ready. Earlier versions had well-documented power frustrations, but newer models like the LEYE III have thankfully addressed this with better-integrated battery solutions. Ultimately, the LEYE III is a pragmatic tool that lowers the barrier to entry for a critical piece of filmmaking kit.

- Compact form factor is ideal for shoulder rigs and smaller cameras
- Fills a major gap in the market for budget EVFs
- Improved power solutions over previous versions
- Noticeable signal latency, though usable for many scenarios
- Build quality may require user modification for professional rigging
- Diopter adjustment can be imprecise

The LEYE does have latency, but it’s not too bad, and I found it to be more than usable, especially for a $400.00 EVF.
This looks super cool with the attached viewfinder and has some awesome features but not without it's downsides.
The LEYE II has the same features and specifications as its predecessor but now offers a built-in battery plate to address the previous model's power issue.
