Our editorial take on the Ulanzi Zero F38 Quick Release Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head
The travel tripod market is famously crowded, but the Ulanzi Zero F38 manages to distinguish itself in meaningful ways. Its primary success is its remarkable balance of weight, portability, and price. Constructed from carbon fiber, it achieves the low weight and compact folded size that traveling creators demand, but at a cost that significantly undercuts many legacy competitors. The design is thoughtful and feels premium, demonstrating a keen understanding of a mobile creator's needs. The real standout feature, however, is the integrated F38 quick-release system. This Arca-Swiss compatible mechanism is a genuine workflow enhancement, allowing for exceptionally fast mounting and dismounting of a camera without fumbling with traditional screw knobs.
Of course, no travel tripod is without its compromises. As a lightweight system, it cannot defy the laws of physics and will not provide the rock-solid stability of a much larger, heavier studio tripod, especially with heavy telephoto lenses or in windy conditions. The ball head is perfectly adequate for most mirrorless and DSLR setups, but those with truly hefty cinema rigs may find its limits. Despite these expected trade-offs, the Zero F38 is a triumph of design and value. It delivers on its promise of a lightweight, fast, and reliable support system that makes bringing a proper tripod on the road feel less like a chore and more like a strategic advantage.
- Exceptionally lightweight and compact carbon fiber design
- Innovative and fast F38 quick-release system
- Excellent value for a carbon fiber travel tripod
- Solid build quality and thoughtful design
- Impressive stability for its small size and weight
- Not as stable as heavier, non-travel tripods
- Ball head may not be suitable for very heavy camera loads

Ulanzi introduced the new carbon fiber F38 Quick Release Video Travel Tripod and we had the chance to check it out together with William Wang from Ulanzi at the NAB show in Las Vegas.
I just don’t get excited about tripods anymore. But with the X-Aircross F38, I was giggling with joy because this tripod is just so darn cool.
