Our editorial take on the Vaxis ATOM 600 KV Wireless TX/RX Kit for RED KOMODO (V-Mount, Black)
The Vaxis ATOM 600 KV is a product of elegant design and frustrating specificity. It solves a real problem for RED KOMODO owners by creating a truly seamless, cable-free wireless video and power solution. The transmitter bolts directly to the camera's battery plate, allowing a V-mount battery to power both the camera and the transmitter, resulting in a remarkably clean and professional build. This integration is the product's entire reason for being, and for many operators, it will be a welcome alternative to a mess of cables and mounting arms.
However, this bespoke design is also its greatest weakness. By committing to the 600 KV, you are committing to the RED KOMODO. The transmitter is fundamentally incompatible with other cameras, making it a questionable long-term investment for anyone who isn't exclusively a KOMODO shooter. Furthermore, it forces the use of V-mount batteries, eliminating the lightweight, run-and-gun advantage of the camera's native Canon BP-9 battery system. While performance is solid, the ultimate decision hinges on your dedication to a single camera platform.
- Seamless, direct-mount integration with the RED KOMODO
- Creates a clean, professional, cable-free camera build
- Provides V-mount battery pass-through power for camera and transmitter
- Reliable wireless signal performance up to a claimed 600 feet
- Features like tally light and record triggering add professional utility
- Exclusively designed for the RED KOMODO, offering no versatility
- Forces use of heavier V-mount batteries, eliminating compact BP-9 battery options
- Poor value proposition for videographers who use multiple camera systems

This is a product announcement and not a review, so there is no verdict on the product.
If you are a proud RED Komodo owner, this unit seems to be a decent addition for creating a sleek, yet capable unit. However, if you choose to switch cameras, this TX unit won’t really work with anything else, so there’s a choice to be made.
While this looks like a good solution for a RED KOMODO, you do have to take into account that the ATOM 600 KV has been designed specifically for that camera. It is not something you could easily use with any other camera. It also forces you to use a V-lock battery and takes away your ability to run the camera off much smaller Canon BP-9 batteries.
