Our editorial take on the Sony Alpha 6700 (α6700)
The Sony a6700 arrives as a significant refresh to Sony's popular APS-C mirrorless line, pairing a 26MP BSI sensor and BIONZ XR processor with features that blur the line between enthusiast and pro. Its autofocus is a standout. Sony's AI-driven subject detection now recognizes humans, animals, birds, insects, and vehicles with a tenacity that leaves competitors behind, making it a reliable workhorse for both stills and video. The camera shoots 11 fps bursts and handles 4K 120p and 1080p 240p video in 10-bit 4:2:2, with robust codecs and log profiles that appeal to hybrid shooters.
Build quality takes a step up from the aging a6x00 series. You get a magnesium alloy body with weather sealing, a vari-angle touchscreen, and redesigned ergonomics that finally feel modern. Battery life is solid at over 550 shots per charge, and the addition of USB-C power delivery and charging makes it practical on the go. The 5-axis in-body stabilization provides 5 stops of compensation, a welcome boost for handheld shooting.
At around $1,400, the a6700 slots neatly between entry-level and full-frame territory. The single card slot and lack of raw video may give pause to some pros, but for travel, hybrid content creation, and general photography, it delivers where it counts.

Editorial reviews
We're impressed with the a6700's autofocus capabilities. No camera company is leaning into AI subject recognition quite as successfully as Sony.
The a6700 revamps quite a lot about the outdated body design of its predecessors, while at the same time completely retaining the rather pedestrian styling.
The Sony a6700 is great for travel photography. It's relatively compact and easy to travel with, has good ergonomics, and a long battery life.
