Our editorial take on the Canon EOS R10
The Canon EOS R10 represents a pivotal moment for Canon, successfully migrating its excellent RF mount and sophisticated autofocus technology into a compact, affordable APS-C body. For aspiring photographers, this camera is a home run. It packs a truly impressive subject-tracking autofocus system and rapid-fire burst shooting speeds that feel like they belong in a much more expensive camera. The combination of a lightweight, easy-to-handle body and access to Canon's expanding lineup of high-quality RF lenses makes the R10 an incredibly compelling package for stills-focused creators, travelers, and families.
However, the impressive spec sheet comes with one major asterisk that video creators must consider. While the camera is capable of producing beautiful 4K footage, it imposes a severe crop when shooting at 60 frames per second. This limitation can be a deal-breaker for vloggers or anyone needing a wide field of view for their video work. Furthermore, the absence of in-body image stabilization, a common compromise at this price point, means you will rely entirely on lens-based stabilization. Ultimately, the R10 is a powerful and responsive camera for its class, but its suitability depends heavily on your priorities. It's a photography powerhouse with video capabilities that are best described as conditional.
- Class-leading autofocus with superb subject tracking
- Fast continuous shooting speeds (15fps mechanical)
- Compact and lightweight body
- Excellent value for stills photography performance
- Access to the modern Canon RF mount and lens ecosystem
- Severe crop in 4K/60p video mode
- Lacks in-body image stabilization (IBIS)

This article discusses rumors about three new Canon cameras, including the EOS R10 Mirrorless Camera, that are expected to be announced later this month.
Canon spent 2022 adding some more distinct optics to the lineup, as well as beginning to lay the foundation for an APS-C-specific series of lenses. This year’s lens releases have been great and welcomed, but not overly surprising.
The Canon EOS R10 is tiny but mighty, sporting an advanced autofocus system, the ability to shoot 15 frames per second with its mechanical shutter, and a full-body APS-C experience.
It’s got the same sensor, Digic 8 processor, 2.36 million dot OLED EVF, and cropped 4K video as that swan song of the EOS M system did. But it’s also missing some key things from that camera — things you normally expect in *every* modern camera, frankly — like an articulating screen, in-body image stabilization, webcam streaming, or any touch controls.
The EOS R10 is a solid start for Canon's budget crop-sensor RF cameras. It's easy to use and delivers where it counts.
With this compact and highly portable Canon EOS R10 model, in particular, Canon is targeting a similar user to their Canon M6 Mark II — an intermediate-level photographer who wants a camera with lots of features and performance in a lightweight, portable and affordable package.
It offers an excellent mix of features, performance and image quality that, in combination with its relatively compact size, make it a great option for a wide range of photographers.
The newly announced Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10 mirrorless cameras offer APS-C sensors with 1.6x crop, Dual Pixel AF in both photo and video modes, and 10-bit 4:2:2 video modes.
