Our editorial take on the FUJIFILM X-H2S
The Fujifilm X-H2S unequivocally redefines expectations for the APS-C format, positioning itself as a speed-focused flagship for serious hybrid creators. Its core innovation is the stacked CMOS sensor, a first for the X-Series, which unlocks a level of performance previously unseen in this category. This is not a camera for the Fujifilm traditionalist seeking retro dials and a relaxed shooting experience. Instead, it is a modern, high-performance workhorse built to compete head-on with established players in demanding fields like sports, wildlife, and professional video production.
The camera's capabilities are formidable. For videographers, the inclusion of internal ProRes recording and options for external Raw output makes it a legitimate filmmaking tool, not just a hybrid with video features. Stills shooters benefit from incredible burst rates and a significantly improved autofocus system that can finally track fast-moving subjects with confidence. The X-H2S is a technical achievement that demonstrates Fujifilm's ambition to dominate the high-end crop sensor market.
However, this flagship status comes with a flagship price tag, pushing it into direct competition with many full-frame alternatives. This cost will be a major barrier for many. Furthermore, while the autofocus is a huge leap forward, it is not consistently flawless and can exhibit some quirks. The modern, PASM-based ergonomic design, while efficient, may also alienate long-time Fuji loyalists who cherish the brand's unique tactile controls. It’s a specialized and powerful tool, but one that requires careful consideration.
- Exceptional speed and readout from the stacked sensor
- Professional-grade video features, including internal ProRes
- Significantly improved subject-detection autofocus
- Impressive blackout-free burst shooting capabilities
- Excellent overall image quality for a hybrid camera
- Premium price point competes with full-frame cameras
- Modern ergonomics abandon traditional Fujifilm control dials
- Autofocus performance, while improved, is not infallible

It weighs almost exactly the same as the X-T4, but feels better built. I think that if you are a hybrid shooter you will love this camera. It delivers great image quality, easy-to-manage picture profiles, and a robust autofocus system.

While the X-H2 and X-H2S are very exciting cameras and deserving of their flagship status, they aren't necessarily what most people think of when they think of FUJIFILM cameras: that would be the X-T line, and many have been waiting to see what these announcements would mean for the X-T5. We here at B&H have had some time with a pre-production model, and I'll tell you what: it was a good time, indeed.
I've had a few days with my Fujifilm X-H2S and here's my experience with their new flagship APS-C camera. Each decision to upgrade or purchase a camera is very personal, and each person has their own priorities for deciding when the time is right to upgrade or purchase.
These new cameras are more pro DSLR-like than anything else in Fujifilm’s X-series of cameras, eschewing classic shutter speed and ISO dials in favor of a more modern PSAM dial. While the X-H2S maintains a modest resolution that’s only two megapixels more than its predecessor, its biggest improvements are in its speed, autofocus tracking capabilities, and hybrid video shooting.
Despite some video and autofocus niggles, the X-H2S is easily the most powerful APS-C camera available right now. However, these improvements and features don't come cheap.
Speed is the name of the game with the X-H2S, which is all-new, inside and out, and it’s an extremely impressive camera. The Fuji X-H2S is an absolute beast of a camera that lives up to every bit of its flagship billing.
