Olympus Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 AF Lens for OM77, OM88 Review

The Olympus Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 AF is a legacy autofocus lens designed for the Olympus OM77 and OM88 film SLR cameras from the early 1990s. With a 49mm filter thread and standard normal focal length, it offered budget-conscious film shooters a fast aperture for available-light work and shallow depth of field. At $35 for a used copy in excellent condition from KEH, it represents an affordable entry point for those still shooting OM-series film bodies or looking to experiment with vintage glass.

This lens is strictly a collector or hobbyist item today, as it only mounts on the now-discontinued OM77 and OM88 models with their proprietary AF coupling. It will not work on the classic manual-focus OM-1 through OM-4 series, nor on any modern Olympus digital bodies. If you already own one of the compatible film cameras and want an inexpensive normal prime, it can deliver serviceable results. For anyone else, there are far more versatile vintage 50mm options that mount on a wider range of cameras.
