Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 Nokton Aspherical Manual Lens for Leica M-Mount, Black Review

The Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 Nokton Aspherical is a manual-focus ultra-wide prime designed for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras. With its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, it offers strong low-light capability and shallow depth-of-field control uncommon in this focal length class. The aspherical element design aims to correct distortion and maintain sharpness across the frame, important considerations for architectural and street photography where 21mm is most often deployed.

As a legacy manual lens, it requires familiarity with focus peaking or rangefinder coupling and offers no electronic communication with the camera body. The 62mm filter thread is relatively large for a rangefinder lens but allows for standard filter use without vignetting concerns. At its price point, it sits in the more accessible tier of M-mount glass, appealing to photographers who want the speed and character of a wide f/1.4 aperture without stepping up to premium Leica Summilux pricing. It fits shooters invested in the Leica M ecosystem looking for a compact, manual wide-angle option with a fast aperture for environmental portraits, street scenes, and available-light work.
