Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton Leica M-Mount Lens, Black with Chrome Rim Review

The Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton is a fast, compact prime designed for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its f/1.2 maximum aperture stands out in the 40mm focal length class, offering strong low-light capability and shallow depth-of-field potential in a package that stays true to the slim, unobtrusive profile M-mount shooters expect. The 40mm focal length sits comfortably between the classic 35mm and 50mm framings, making it a versatile choice for street, travel, and everyday photography.

Voigtlander has built a reputation for delivering manual-focus glass with solid optical performance and metal build quality at prices well below Leica's own lenses, and the 40mm f/1.2 Nokton fits squarely into that tradition. At $692, it offers an accessible entry point for photographers seeking speed and character without the premium typically associated with M-mount glass. The black body with chrome rim adds a classic aesthetic that pairs well with vintage and modern rangefinders alike.
