Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 Nokton Classic S.C Leica M-Mount Lens, Black with Chrome Rim Review

The Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 Nokton Classic S.C is a compact manual-focus prime designed for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras. With its fast f/1.4 aperture and classic single-coated optics, it occupies a sweet spot for street and documentary photographers who value a natural field of view and low-light capability. The 40mm focal length sits comfortably between 35mm and 50mm, making it versatile for environmental portraits and everyday shooting.

Voigtlander's Nokton Classic line is known for delivering optical character at accessible price points, and the S.C (single-coated) variant leans into vintage rendering with lower contrast and more subdued flare characteristics compared to multi-coated modern glass. Build quality is typically solid metal construction, and the lens ships with both caps and a hood. At $401, it undercuts most Leica-branded alternatives significantly while maintaining rangefinder-coupling accuracy and mechanical precision. It's a straightforward choice for M-mount shooters seeking a classic look without the premium price tag.
