Our editorial take on the Canon PowerShot V3
The Canon PowerShot V3 is a 1-inch sensor compact camera aimed squarely at vloggers and content creators who want a lightweight, video-focused tool. It packs a 20.1 MP stacked CMOS sensor with 4K recording at 30 fps (with a 10-minute limit), 1080p at 120 fps, and a fast f/1.8-2.8 zoom lens covering 24-100mm equivalent. The 180-degree tilting touchscreen, vertical video support, and built-in stereo mic input make it a natural fit for YouTube and social media work. At 304 grams, it sits comfortably between a smartphone and a mirrorless setup, offering USB-C charging and live streaming via Canon's iMAGE GATEWAY.
Reviewers note that this camera follows the PowerShot V1's formula, leaning heavily into video over stills. The fast continuous shooting and optical stabilization are welcome, but the 10-minute 4K recording limit and 30-minute 1080p cap may frustrate longer-form creators. The compact format and flip screen make it appealing for solo vlogging, though it doesn't challenge Sony's RX100 series on all-around video performance. For creators who prioritize portability and ease of use over extended recording or advanced video features, the V3 hits the mark.
- Fast f/1.8-2.8 lens with 24-100mm equivalent range
- Lightweight at 304 grams with 180-degree tilting touchscreen
- Native vertical video support and stereo mic input for content creators
- 1080p at 120 fps for slow motion
- USB-C charging and live streaming capability
- 10-minute 4K recording limit restricts longer shoots
- Video performance trails competitors like Sony RX100 IV
- 30-minute 1080p recording cap may not suit all use cases

Synthesizing many of the industry's larger 2025 trends, the PowerShot V1 represents the intersection of the resurgent compact market and the pivot to hybrid cameras. It also represents another emergent trend: the development and deployment of new sensor formats.
While the PowerShot V1 is a very good camera for what it is, it caters very heavily toward video users.
LetsGoDigital rated the camera excellent, with great photo quality and true colors (with some redeye issues), while Steve from Steve's Digicams found the camera to be adequate, but just not up to par with the even more excellent Canon PowerShot G6.
Expected to be released in the second half of 2025, the Canon Powershot V3 is another highly anticipated camera, especially for Vloggers, who prefer a smaller form factor.
Many USB-C webcams we’ve tried don’t work at all, including the ones you’ll typically find on “best webcam” lists around the internet, like the Logitech Brio 4K, the Insta360 Link, and the Elgato Facecam MK.2. Meanwhile, ancient USB-A cameras like my Logitech C920 fire up instantly with no trouble at all.
It's small, light, easy to use, and takes great pictures. What more could you ask for?
It is the latest 1” sensor camera offering from Canon and I thought it would be nice to get hands on with it, doing a bit of experimental shooting. If you make the direct comparison between this camera and the Sony RX100 IV for video usage, then the latter will beat the Canon PowerShot G5 X hands down.
