Our editorial take on the Hasselblad X2D 100C
The Hasselblad X2D 100C represents a decisive leap forward for medium format photography, delivering on the promise of a modern mirrorless shooting experience wrapped around extraordinary image quality. Reviewers consistently praise its 100MP BSI CMOS sensor, native 16-bit color depth, and 15.3 stops of dynamic range as best-in-class, producing files that justify the camera's flagship status. The addition of 5-axis stabilization and a vastly improved autofocus system with 425 phase-detection points and LiDAR brings this camera into genuine daily-use territory, something earlier Hasselblad bodies struggled to achieve.
Enthusiasm for the X2D runs high across reviews. Multiple outlets describe it as a unique and enjoyable shooting experience, with one calling it among their favorite cameras ever despite acknowledged shortcomings. The design is frequently praised for its elegance and build quality, and the inclusion of modern conveniences like a tilting screen and onboard storage makes it far more practical than its predecessors. Reviewers note the camera is now nimble enough to carry regularly, a significant shift for medium format.
The X2D isn't without compromises. Autofocus, while much improved, still lags behind contemporary full-frame flagships in speed and subject tracking. Video shooters should look elsewhere, as the camera lacks true video functionality. And at over $8,000, this is a serious investment that makes sense only for those who genuinely need medium format resolution and color depth. But for photographers chasing ultimate image quality in a refined, usable package, the X2D 100C hits its stride.
- Outstanding 100MP image quality with 16-bit color and 15.3 stops of dynamic range
- Effective 5-axis 10-stop IBIS makes handheld shooting practical
- Much-improved autofocus with 425-point PDAF and LiDAR
- Elegant design and build quality with modern conveniences like tilting screen
- Compact and portable for a medium format camera
- Autofocus still slower than full-frame flagships for fast action
- No meaningful video functionality
- Very high price limits appeal to serious professionals and enthusiasts

The 907X-based system is one of the most unique in terms of modularity and offers a very simple and elegant solution for pairing a set of high-quality lenses to a high-resolution sensor. The size and weight benefits are among the most appealing traits of this camera system, making it a camera I was willing to carry at all times.
Nearly six years later, we now have a camera that lives up to the core dream of that camera. The image quality is, as you might expect, incredible and that is finally bolstered by a shooting experience that lives up to the modern expectations of a digital mirrorless camera.
Despite its many flaws, Hasselblad’s flagship camera is one of my favorite cameras ever.
Hasselblad has launched the followup to its first 100MP medium-format camera with a new model that improves on it in almost every way. The X2D II 100C promises better image quality, a brighter display, 10-stop stabilization and updated hybrid autofocus.
The Hasselblad X2D 100C is a fantastic camera that offers a unique and enjoyable shooting experience, delivering exceptional image quality.
Hasselblad’s 907X is a compact, box-shaped digital camera. It bears an excellent sensor, similar to the unit found in FUJIFILM’s GFX 100, 100c, and 100 II cameras, as well as Hasselblad’s own X2D 100C. The large 44x33mm BSI CMOS is known to produce impressive video output, but as with its former model, the 907X 100C lacks any video functionality.
Hasselblad has announced the X2D 100Cs, a new X system mirrorless medium format camera that features a 100MP sensor, improved AF, IBIS, and host of other features. The X2D is nimble and has the AF and IBIS the photography world now expects; it has convenience features like a tilting screen and onboard storage.
Hasselblad has come a long way since its medium-format mirrorless debut in 2016. The X2D 100C is a beautiful camera and an ultimate imaging machine in the right situation. The camera has few usability drawbacks, but if you want the best image quality and care about style, the Hasselblad X2D 100C is a fantastic option.
