Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH Review

The Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH is a premium macro lens for APS-C L-Mount cameras, delivering a 90mm full-frame equivalent field of view. It offers true 1:1 magnification and a minimum focus distance of just 16 cm, with a working distance of 2.4 inches at closest focus. The apochromatic (APO) design and four aspherical elements across a 10-element, 9-group construction aim to minimize chromatic aberration and maximize sharpness across the frame.

At 320 grams and built from metal with internal focusing, it presents a solid, compact form factor suited to Leica's TL and CL bodies. The 60mm filter thread and included aluminum lens hood round out the package. Launched at $3,395, it sits at the luxury end of the macro lens market, targeting photographers who prioritize optical refinement and build quality over broader feature sets like stabilization. Its APS-C coverage limits its appeal to those committed to crop-sensor L-Mount systems.
