The Samyang XEEN CF 50mm T1.5 marks a significant evolution for the company's cine lens lineup, successfully addressing many of the criticisms leveled at the original XEEN series. The move to a carbon fiber body is the most obvious upgrade, resulting in a lens that is substantially lighter and more manageable for gimbal, drone, or run-and-gun shooting without sacrificing a robust, production-ready feel. Optically, the lens delivers impressive performance that genuinely punches above its weight class, offering sharp, pleasing images that hold their own against much more expensive alternatives. The fast T1.5 aperture provides excellent low-light capability and creative control over depth of field.

While this lens represents a remarkable value, it is not without its trade-offs. Samyang has made strides in correcting optical flaws, but some chromatic aberration can still be noticeable when shooting wide open at T1.5. The character of the lens, while cinematic, isn't as clinically perfect or corrected as what you would find in top-tier cinema glass costing ten times as much. However, these are minor points when viewed through the lens of value. For its intended audience, the combination of full-frame coverage, professional handling, consistent performance across the set, and a lightweight build makes the XEEN CF 50mm an outstanding choice.
